Good Chemistry Is Key... Especially in Public Affairs

At The Dow Chemical Company, we believe that good chemistry is key to solving the most fundamental human problems. Dow Public Affairs professionals interact with stakeholders such as customers, employees, media, government officials, and communities. They manage key communications throughout the company, including: Employee Communications, Community Relations, Media Relations, eCommunications, Issues communications, and Business/Marketing Communications.

Public Affairs Development Program

Dow offers professionals graduating in 2008 or within the last four years the opportunity to begin their career in Dow Public Affairs by enrolling in the Public Affairs Development Program (PADP). By completing three rotating assignments, each lasting between four to six months, participants in the PADP develop their skills, experience and network. Assignments include project work that challenges and develops well rounded Public Affairs professionals. At the end of the rotational program, the PADP alumnus is placed in a regular career position, based on available positions and the individual's preference and performance.

We have currently two positions available in this PADP program in Europe. Successful candidates will be hired into the European headquarters in Horgen, Switzerland, and will spend at least one of their assignments in that location.

Do You Have the Right Chemistry?

A career in Dow Public Affairs requires a degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, or a related field, and the following preferred attributes:

  • Leadership and organizational capabilities.
  • Strong writing skills.
  • Creativity.
  • A business mindset.
  • Flexibility to travel and carry out assignments in Dow locations across Europe.
  • Flexibility to move to another Dow location for the regular career position offered upon completion of the program.
  • Basic work experience in one or more of the following areas: Employee Communications, Community Relations, Media Relations, eCommunications, Issues Communications, and/or Business/Marketing Communications, ideally in one of the following countries or areas: France, Eastern Europe, the Netherlands or Belgium.

In addition, candidates need to have the following skills:

  • Fluent in English, French and German, or,
  • Fluent in English, an Eastern European language, and preferably German, or,
  • Fluent in English, Dutch, and preferably French.
  • Ideally, cultural understanding of one of the following: France, Eastern Europe, the Netherlands or Belgium.
